Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Military Headquarters announced Monday the "suspension" of armed forces operations against Israel.
The Iranian military said a "painful response" had been delivered following Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon and Beirut's Dahiyeh district, while warning that any further "aggression and hostile acts", including in southern Lebanon, would be met with "much more severe and crushing measures than before."
The announcement came hours after Trump publicly demanded that both sides immediately stop shooting. Trump wrote on Truth Social: "Israel and Iran must immediately stop 'shooting.'"
In a separate post on Truth Social, Trump said, "Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate ceasefire! Final negotiations on 'Peace' are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way."
"The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a 'Final Deal' is reached. Things should move quickly," he added.
The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said in a statement carried by the semi-official Tasnim and Fars news agencies that Iran's armed forces had delivered a "painful response" to Israel in support of what it called "the oppressed people of Lebanon," following Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon and the Dahiyeh district of Beirut.
"The suspension of Armed Forces operations is announced," the statement said, without providing further details on timing or scope.
However, the headquarters attached a direct warning: "If aggressions and hostile actions continue, including in southern Lebanon, far more severe and crushing measures than before will follow."
The statement added: "It is a response from which the illegitimate Zionist regime and its supporters should have learned a lesson."
"Our priority is national security and the peace of our people. We will defend the rights of the nation with authority and will not retreat in the face of any threat. Diplomacy and defense are the two wings of national power; we have neither abandoned the field nor the negotiating table," Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on X.
"Allah willing, with unity and rationality, Iran will emerge triumphant from this trial as well," he added.
Israel's Channel 12 news channel reported that, as per Trump's request, Israeli strikes on Iran are being halted.
"Israel will accept the Trump administration’s request to halt strikes on Iran but will continue attacks on southern Lebanon," two Israeli sources also told CNN, with one of the sources characterizing the situation as "very fragile."
"The feeling during the consultation was that the round was behind us," senior Israeli official cited by Channel 12 said.
A source briefed on the matter also confirmed to Reuters that Israel has decided to stop its attacks on Iran.
The suspension announcement came after Iran had fired nearly 30 ballistic missiles at Israel since Sunday night, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had earlier vowed a "full week of continuous strikes" as part of Operation Nasr.
Israel had responded with multiple waves of airstrikes targeting nine Iranian air defense systems and a petrochemical complex in southwestern Iran.
The region has been on edge since the U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran in late February, triggering Iranian retaliation on Israel and other regional countries hosting U.S. assets.
A temporary ceasefire was reached on April 8, but negotiations later stalled amid disputes over its implementation and subsequent regional developments.
