Iran targeted camps belonging to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in northern Iraq on Tuesday after air defense systems intercepted three suicide drones over Erbil, according to reports.
Loud explosions echoed across Erbil after air defense systems were activated, local media Rudaw TV reported. The broadcaster said three suicide drones were brought down over the city.
The Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), an Iranian Kurdish opposition group, later announced that one of its camps near Erbil had been struck by two missiles.
No immediate information was released on casualties or damage from the latest attack.
Iran has repeatedly launched missile and drone strikes against Erbil and Sulaymaniyah since fighting broke out between Iran, the U.S., and Israel on Feb. 28.
As tensions flared up again despite the memorandum of understanding signed in June that called for a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, the region came under renewed missile and drone attacks.
Iran has been targeting camps belonging to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups as well as the U.S. military base and the American consulate in Erbil.
In one of the previous attacks, Iran launched eight suicide drones toward Erbil, while a missile strike on a Komele camp near Sulaymaniyah killed eight members of the group.
The Kurdish Regional Government on July 17 strongly condemned the strikes on Erbil and Sulaymaniyah and urged Tehran to immediately halt its ongoing attacks.
Iran's military announced that it had carried out a fresh drone attack on U.S. military facilities in Kuwait early Wednesday.
According to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, Iranian forces used "a large number of attack drones" to strike ammunition depots and logistical equipment at Camp Doha in western Kuwait, targeting storage facilities and the land forces command center.
The latest developments came after reports that explosions were heard across several Iranian provinces following overnight U.S. missile and airstrikes.
Khuzestan, Sistan-Baluchestan, Hormozgan, Bushehr, Kermanshah, Kurdistan province and the city of Tabriz were among the reported targets, while local officials also reported strikes in Baneh and Kebuder Ahang.
No information on casualties or damage was immediately available.
U.S. forces also struck three sites in Iran's southwestern Bushehr province, including an area that hosts a key nuclear facility, Iranian state media reported.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) later announced that it had carried out its 11th consecutive night of operations against Iran, targeting military operations centers, maritime capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities and logistics infrastructure.
CENTCOM also claimed Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz over the past three months.
It maintained that the waterway remains open to commercial shipping and added that US forces have helped facilitate the passage of about 900 commercial vessels carrying roughly 450 million barrels of crude oil since early May.
