Iran condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent secret visit to the United Arab Emirates, warning Gulf countries of "very dangerous consequences" from Israel's presence in the region.
The Foreign Ministry described Netanyahu as the "child-killing and war-mongering prime minister" of Israel and warned that his visit was particularly concerning amid Israel's military actions against Iran and its operations in Palestine and Lebanon.
"At a sensitive time in West Asia, particularly as the Zionist regime's attacks against Iran and the intensification of occupation and genocide in Islamic lands, particularly Palestine and Lebanon, continue, the presence of this provocative entity in the region creates a very dangerous situation," the ministry said.
The ministry urged countries in the region to remain alert to what it described as threats to their shared peace and security and called on them not to allow their territories to be used for actions that could harm regional stability.
"Regional security is a collective and indivisible matter," the ministry said, warning that moves that facilitate an outside presence in the region could ultimately harm all countries by increasing tensions, insecurity and instability in West Asia.
Tehran called on regional governments to recognize their responsibility for maintaining peace and stability and to prevent their territories from becoming a platform for actions against other countries in the region.
Netanyahu traveled to the UAE on Sept. 27, with Israeli media initially describing the trip as a secret visit. The Israeli Prime Minister's Office and the UAE later confirmed that the trip had taken place.
UAE state news agency WAM reported that President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met Netanyahu during the visit. The two sides discussed issues related to strengthening and developing bilateral relations, according to the agency.
Israeli media also reported that Netanyahu held a meeting involving officials from Israel, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Morocco, Kuwait, Bahrain, Libya, Oman and Egypt.
The reported talks covered the "Iran threat," stronger cooperation between Israel and Gulf countries, economic issues and Israeli defense systems, according to the Israeli reports.
Israeli media reported that Netanyahu asked Bin Zayed to reject claims that the UAE leader had warned him before Oct. 7 about a possible attack from Gaza. Haaretz had previously reported that Bin Zayed warned Netanyahu before Oct. 7, a claim that Netanyahu denied.
