Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said agreements and cooperation among countries in the region signal the arrival of "a new era," arguing that foreign powers such as the United States are no longer seen as capable of providing lasting security to regional states.
Ghalibaf made the remarks in a written statement marking "Unity Week," according to Iran's Students News Agency (ISNA), emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation among Muslim-majority nations.
Ghalibaf said recent developments in the region have made clear to Muslim countries that security guaranteed by outside powers cannot endure. He described security "based on the presence and intervention of powers from outside the region" as fragile and dependent, contrasting it with an alternative rooted in regional will.
"Security based on the will of Muslim nations and the fraternal cooperation of regional countries can be stable, dignified and lasting," Ghalibaf said.
Pointing to defense agreements and cooperative arrangements now taking shape between countries in the region, Ghalibaf said signs of this shift are visible in the formation of new regional pacts and frameworks.
He characterized these developments as potentially marking the start of an era in which Muslim neighbors rely on their own capacities rather than outside actors, and choose cooperation and brotherhood over corrosive rivalry.
The comments came as part of Iran's annual observance of Unity Week, a period during which Iranian officials traditionally issue statements on solidarity among Muslim nations. Ghalibaf did not name specific agreements or countries in the remarks reported by ISNA.
