The Israeli military accused Hezbollah of violating the Lebanon ceasefire Wednesday, saying the Iran-backed group launched an explosive drone at an Israeli engineering vehicle in southern Lebanon.
The military said the incident occurred overnight near Ali al-Taher Ridge, within a strip of territory where Israeli forces are operating about 10 kilometers, or 6 miles, inside southern Lebanon along the border with Israel.
“Overnight, Hezbollah launched an explosive drone toward an IDF engineering vehicle in the area of Ali al-Taher Ridge within the Security Zone,” the military said, calling the incident “a blatant violation of the ceasefire.”
No Israeli soldiers were injured, according to the statement.
Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for any attacks since June 20.
The Israeli military said its forces continued operating near the ridge and would prevent armed groups from advancing or attacking soldiers.
Its troops “continue to operate in the ridge area and will not allow terrorists in the area to advance or execute attacks against IDF soldiers,” the statement said.
Under a U.S.-sponsored agreement signed last month, the Lebanese army is expected to disarm Hezbollah while Israeli forces withdraw from designated “pilot zones.”
Lebanese troops are then expected to deploy in those areas.
The agreement came more than three months after Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel on March 2 in support of Tehran, drawing Lebanon into the wider Middle East war and prompting major Israeli airstrikes and a ground invasion.
Violence has declined since the preliminary U.S.-Iran agreement and the Lebanon-Israel deal were signed last month.
Lebanon, however, continues to report intermittent Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire in the south.
The Lebanese army on Sunday condemned continued Israeli military operations, saying they were preventing its full deployment under the agreement.
