The Israeli military said Friday that it killed Esmail Ahmadi, head of the intelligence division of Iran's Basij paramilitary force, in a strike on Tehran on Monday that also killed Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani.
"Ahmadi played a central role in advancing and executing terror attacks carried out by Basij Forces," the Israeli army said in a statement on X.
It also said Ahmadi "played a key role" in the suppression of mass protests in Iran earlier this year. "The Israeli army will continue to operate against Iranian terror regime commanders," it added.
Tehran previously confirmed Soleimani's death but had not yet commented on Ahmadi's alleged killing at the time of reporting.
Israel also claims to have killed Mehdi Rastami Sh'mastan, a key commander in the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence.
"Sh'mastan was a key figure in promoting terrorist activities and attacks against Israeli and Jewish civilians around the world. The Ministry of Intelligence is the Iranian terror regime’s primary intelligence organization and serves as one of the regime’s central mechanisms of oppression and terror," the Israeli army stated on X.
Since Israel and the U.S. launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, killing some 1,300 people including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.
