A trilateral working plan for military cooperation between Israel, Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC) was signed last week in the GCASC, Israeli authorities said.

According to a statement from the Israeli military, the trilateral plan was signed alongside bilateral working plans for 2026 between the Israeli army and the Greek army, as well as between the Israeli army and GCASC forces.

An Israeli delegation led by Amit Adler, head of the Israeli army’s International Cooperation Division, met with Greek and Greek Cypriot military counterparts in Nicosia as part of the annual joint meeting among defense officials of the three sides.

The working plans include joint exercises, training activities, working groups in various fields and strategic military dialogues on issues of shared interest, the statement said.

Greece deepens defense ties with Israel

The signing comes as Greece and Israel continue to strengthen political and defense relations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and GCASC leader Nikos Christodoulides met at a trilateral summit in West Jerusalem on Dec. 22.

Defense cooperation featured prominently at the summit, with Israeli media interpreting the meeting as part of Netanyahu’s effort to strengthen ties with Athens amid growing international isolation.

Israeli outlets also assessed the summit as reflecting closer coordination between Tel Aviv and Athens in the Eastern Mediterranean, including in relation to Türkiye.

On April 1, 2025, Mitsotakis visited Netanyahu in Israel, becoming the first European leader to meet him in person after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant over alleged war crimes in Gaza.

Israel receives first 'Iron Beam' laser defense system

Separately, Israel announced the first delivery of its laser-based air defense system known as Iron Beam to the Israeli military.

In a statement, the Israeli Ministry of Defense said Iron Beam, designed to intercept rockets, mortars and unmanned aerial vehicles, has begun integration into the Israeli army’s air defense architecture.

Developed by Israeli defense firm Rafael, the system will operate as a complementary layer alongside the Iron Dome, David’s Sling and Arrow missile defense systems.

The ministry said it signed a multi-billion-dollar agreement with Rafael in November to expand serial production of the Iron Dome and to procure additional interceptor missiles.
