Israel used more than 80 fighter jets to carry out a broad wave of strikes against targets in Iran early Saturday, the Israeli military said.
The IDF said the pre-dawn attacks targeted military infrastructure across the country, including facilities linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to the IDF, the strikes included the Imam Hossein military university in Iran, which it said is used to train IRGC officers and contained multiple military assets.
The Israeli military said other targets included an IRGC assembly compound, underground infrastructure used for storing ballistic missiles, military bunkers and command centers where senior officials of the Iranian regime were operating.
Launch sites in western and central Iran were also struck, the IDF said.
Footage and images from Tehran showed black smoke rising and explosions heard in the pre-dawn darkness.
Flames were also seen at Tehran’s Mehrabad airport.
Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency accused Israel of striking the airport.
The strikes came amid a new wave of attacks in the region. Israel targeted the Lebanese capital Beirut and the Iranian capital Tehran, with intense overnight bombardment that woke residents and shook windows.
Iran’s retaliatory campaign also continued with a new round of strikes, including attacks on Tel Aviv.
The Israeli military also said it dismantled an underground bunker in central Tehran that was intended for slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has continued to strike neighboring Gulf nations with missiles and drones.
The U.S. State Department said nearly 20,000 American citizens have returned to the U.S. since the war began Saturday, though thousands remain stranded in the Middle East.
