Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on Friday that the Israeli army's strikes on Iran will "intensify and expand" to additional targets and domains assisting Iran in building and operating weapons against Israeli civilians, following what he described as continued Iranian missile fire despite repeated warnings.
Israel's Health Ministry also recently reported that 5,492 people have been evacuated to hospitals since the war began on Feb. 28.
Katz made the statement during an assessment with military officials.
"The prime minister and I warned the Iranian terror regime to stop the missile fire toward the civilian population in Israel. Despite the warnings, the fire continues, and therefore Israeli army strikes in Iran will intensify and expand to additional targets and domains that assist the regime in building and operating weapons against Israeli civilians," Katz said.
"They will pay heavy, increasing prices for this war crime," he added.
As of 7 a.m. Friday, 5,492 injured individuals have been evacuated to hospitals since the start of the war, according to an official update from Israel's Health Ministry. Of those, 116 remain hospitalized, including one in critical condition and 16 in severe condition.
Twenty-four patients are in moderate condition, 74 have minor injuries and one is undergoing medical assessment.
Israel maintains strict limits on information about the impact of Iranian retaliatory attacks and Hezbollah strikes, with the military imposing tight media controls and warnings against publishing footage of damage or revealing targeted locations.
The U.S. and Israel have carried out an air offensive on Iran since Feb. 28, killing over 1,340 people so far, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.
