Joint U.S.-Israeli strikes Saturday morning targeted Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, along with other senior figures, Israeli and U.S. sources confirmed, though the results of the strikes remain unclear.
An Israeli official told Reuters that both Khamenei and Pezeshkian were targeted.
A source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters that Khamenei was not in Tehran at the time and had been transferred to a secure location.
Two Israeli sources familiar with the operation told CNN that the strikes targeted a broader list of senior Iranian figures, including Armed Forces Chief of Staff Abdolrahim Mousavi, Defense Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani, and National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani.
Israeli journalist Amit Segal first reported that Israel and the United States had attempted to assassinate Khamenei.
An Iranian source close to the establishment told Reuters that several senior Revolutionary Guard commanders and political officials were killed in the strikes. Iranian media reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is safe.
There has been no official update from Iran on the status of Khamenei or Pezeshkian.

Multiple barrages of Iranian missiles triggered air raid sirens across Israel, including in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, Beersheba and the occupied West Bank.
The war erupted just two days after the third round of indirect nuclear negotiations in Geneva ended with both sides reporting progress.
