Israel shut down its airspace to civilian flights on Saturday, Feb after it said it had carried out "preventive strikes" on Iran, according to an official statement.

The decision came shortly after sirens sounded in Jerusalem and applies to all civilian air traffic, with the order issued through the country’s civil aviation authority. Authorities did not immediately say how long the restriction would remain in place.

Transportation Minister Miri Regev said the decision was made in response to unfolding developments. "Following the security developments, the Minister of Transportation has ordered the Director of the Israel Civil Aviation Authority to close the airspace of the State of Israel to civilian flights," she said.

Ben Gurion Airport says foreign flights heading to Israel are turning back after the attack on Iran, reports Channel 12.
