Israel struck eight bridge sections across five Iranian cities on Tuesday, the Israeli military confirmed.

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had also attacked railways used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), escalating the U.S.-Israeli assault on Iranian infrastructure ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's 8 p.m. ET deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S.-Israeli attacks target at least 4 railway lines, bridges and 2 road routes across multiple provinces in Iran, killing 2, injuring 3, Fars News Agency reported.

Israeli army confirms 8 bridge sections struck in 5 cities

The Israeli military said it struck eight bridge sections used by armed forces subordinate to the Iranian regime for transporting combat equipment and military gear across Tehran, Karaj, Tabriz, Kashan and Qom.

"The armed forces subordinate to the regime used the attacked crossings even currently for transporting combat equipment and military gear, and for advancing terror activity against the State of Israel and additional countries throughout the Middle East," the Israeli army said in a statement.

The military said the bridges were struck "with the aim of preventing regime forces from using them to transfer equipment and combat means," and stated that prior to the attack, measures were taken to reduce civilian harm, including advance warnings, use of precise weaponry and aerial observations.

"The Israeli army will continue to operate against any infrastructure that serves the regime's armed forces for military purposes as well as for advancing terror operations against the State of Israel and countries of the world," the statement added.

Netanyahu: 'Yesterday helicopters, today railways and bridges'

Netanyahu confirmed the strikes in a video message released by his office and in a social media post.

"We are crushing the terror regime in Iran with ever-increasing force. Yesterday we destroyed transport aircraft and dozens of helicopters, and today we attacked the railway lines and bridges used by the Revolutionary Guards," Netanyahu said.

He said the strikes "are not intended to attack the Iranian people. On the contrary, they are meant to weaken and cut down the regime of bullies that has oppressed them for forty-seven years," he added.

Netanyahu said the strikes targeted infrastructure "used by" Iran's IRGC, without providing evidence to support the claim. The statement made no mention of Trump's Tuesday deadline.

Earlier Tuesday, the Israeli army had warned Iranians to stay away from trains and railway lines until 9 p.m. local time, saying their presence near railway infrastructure "endangers your life."

Striking civilian infrastructure is generally prohibited under international law. Israel has carried out repeated strikes on bridges and other civilian sites in Iran and Lebanon throughout the conflict.

Since Feb. 28, U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran have killed more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes on Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets, while restricting movement through the Strait of Hormuz.
