Israeli forces carried out an attack in southern Lebanon early Wednesday, in the latest violation of a U.S.-mediated framework agreement, Lebanese media reported.
Israeli warplanes struck the town of Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district, Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) said in a brief report.
No further details were immediately available on casualties or property damage.
The attack came amid continued tensions between Israel and Lebanon following the outbreak of a new round of hostilities on March 2.
Israel has launched extensive attacks on Lebanon since March 2, claiming they targeted Hezbollah, while the group responded with attacks against Israel, effectively ending a cease-fire that had been in place since November 2024.
U.S.-led diplomatic efforts led to the signing of a framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon in June.
The agreement provides for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army there and the disarmament of armed groups.
The Israeli army stepped up attacks on southern Lebanon on Tuesday with airstrikes, artillery barrages, and ground operations despite the June agreement calling for it to withdraw from Lebanese territory.
The attacks caused fires in several areas, while a Lebanese man was injured by the detonation of leftover Israeli ordnance, NNA reported.
The attacks targeted the Tyre, Marjayoun, Bint Jbeil, and Nabatieh districts and were accompanied by the construction of earthworks and movements by Israeli military vehicles, according to NNA.
The agreement also calls for the disarmament of militant groups, in reference to Hezbollah.
In the Tyre district, Israeli warplanes struck targets in Mansouri and Wadi Hassan, NNA reported.
The area between Tayr Harfa and Majdal Zoun was also reportedly hit by airstrikes, while Israeli ground forces shelled Mansouri and Majdal Zoun.
In Tayr Debba, at least one person was injured by the detonation of leftover Israeli ordnance.
In the Marjayoun district, Israeli forces targeted Mais al-Jabal, Markaba, and Bani Hayyan with artillery fire, NNA reported.
The attacks coincided with intensive movements by Israeli military vehicles, military construction, and scorched-earth operations that sent columns of smoke rising from the area.
The Marjayoun plain below Hamamis Hill was also struck by artillery, causing fires.
At dawn, Israeli warplanes struck the Litani River channel below Deir Mar Mima.
Israeli forces deployed in Kafr Kila and Tall al-Nahas also built fortifications near a strategic road junction.
In the Bint Jbeil district, Israeli artillery reportedly pounded the areas of Ainata, Beit Lif, and Wadi al-Uyun.
Israeli military vehicles were seen moving from the Khallat Haris area toward Awwal al-Jabbaneh, accompanied by indiscriminate machine-gun fire.
In the Nabatieh district, Israeli forces carried out a controlled explosion in Zawtar al-Sharqiya that was heard in several nearby towns.
A drone also fired a guided missile at a van on the Doha-Kfar Rumman Road.
Although the vehicle was hit by shrapnel, no injuries were reported.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Israeli ground forces advanced toward Al-Sawan Hill in Mayfadoun, where they took up positions in a local residence.
Since early March, almost daily Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon have killed 4,348 people and injured more than 12,000 others, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
Israeli forces are present in several parts of the region, some of which they have occupied for decades.
Other areas were occupied during a previous round of fighting in 2023 and 2024, when Israeli forces advanced more than 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) into sovereign Lebanese territory.
