Israel carried out overnight airstrikes targeting the Syrian village of Hader, near the occupied Golan Heights, claiming to disrupt arms smuggling networks.
The raids hit four separate locations and caused damage in civilian-populated areas, according to regional sources.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the operations early Sunday, stating that weapons and ammunition were seized, and several suspects were detained for interrogation.
Military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said the strikes aimed to prevent "terror elements" from gaining a presence near the border, framing the actions as preemptive self-defense.
Israel has occupied the Golan Heights since 1967 and extended control over adjacent buffer zones on Dec. 8, 2024. The Israeli army has since pushed as close as 20 kilometers from Damascus, Syria’s capital.
The IDF emphasized its ongoing commitment to maintaining a military presence along the Syrian border and conducting further actions to neutralize security threats. The 210th Division remains deployed to secure the Golan Heights and expanded buffer regions.
Earlier, Israeli forces also struck Suweida and the outskirts of Damascus, citing the protection of Druze populations during tribal clashes and the targeting of military assets.
The Golan Heights have been internationally recognized as Syrian territory under Israeli occupation since the 1967 Six-Day War. Recent Israeli expansions into Syrian buffer zones have escalated tensions in the region.
Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense condemned Israel’s strikes on Damascus as "clear provocation" and reiterated that Türkiye is ready to support Syria’s defense capabilities and counterterrorism efforts if requested.
Turkish forces in Syria were not impacted by the attacks.
