Israeli warplanes demolished two high-rise residential buildings in Gaza City on Monday, forcing hundreds of Palestinians from their homes as Israel's military campaign in the enclave continues.

The Israeli military destroyed Al-Salam Tower on Omar Al-Mukhtar Street in central Gaza City using three missiles, according to eyewitness accounts provided to Anadolu news agency. The strike occurred shortly after Israeli forces issued evacuation warnings to residents, though dozens of tents and large displacement camps housing hundreds of people surrounded the building.

Witnesses described scenes of panic as residents fled the high-rise, abandoning their possessions in their rush to escape. Some residents threw belongings from upper floors before evacuating. The Israeli warning also triggered the displacement of an adjacent camp housing cancer patients, causing distress among sick children and their families.

Military destroys second tower in western Gaza City

Earlier on Monday, Israeli forces destroyed Al-Ruya Tower in western Gaza City, another multi-story building that housed hundreds of Palestinians. The military ordered residents and displaced people in the surrounding area to evacuate before the strike.

The demolitions came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that his military had destroyed 50 residential buildings in Gaza City over two days, pledging to continue the campaign and advance displacement operations.

Israel began targeting multi-story buildings sheltering displaced civilians in Gaza City on Friday as part of what officials describe as a plan to occupy the entire city.

The military offensive, which began in October 2023, has killed more than 64,500 Palestinians and devastated the Gaza Strip, pushing the entire population toward famine conditions.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its military actions in the enclave.
