A group of Israelis crossed into Syrian territory from the Majdal Shams area of the occupied Golan Heights before being detained near the border and returned to Israeli-controlled territory, the Israeli military said.

In a statement, the military said the group reached the occupied Majdal Shams area and crossed the border into Syria.

Israeli forces launched a search operation and located the group near the border inside Syrian territory, according to the statement.

The Israelis were brought back to the occupied Golan Heights and handed over to police.

Israeli forces stop second group from crossing border

The Israeli military said another group of Israelis reached the border in the southern occupied Golan Heights on Friday with the intention of entering Syrian territory.

Israeli forces prevented the second group from crossing into Syria and transferred the suspects to police.

The military described attempts to enter Syria without authorization as a criminal violation that endangers both civilians and Israeli troops.

“Such actions constitute a criminal violation that puts citizens and military forces at risk,” the statement said.

‘Bashan Pioneers’ calls for Jewish settlements in Syria

An Israeli group calling itself the “Bashan Pioneers” has frequently entered Syrian territory while calling for the establishment of illegal Jewish settlements in the area.

The group’s name is inspired by the biblical name for the Golan Heights and southern Syria.

Members of the group have repeatedly attempted to cross from the occupied Golan Heights into Syria as part of their campaign supporting the creation of Jewish settlements there.
