Israeli military entered several villages in Syria's southern Quneitra province with military vehicles, conducted house searches and fired artillery at an area in the Damascus countryside, Syrian state media reported.
According to a report on Syria's state broadcaster Al-Ikhbariya, Israeli occupation military entered the village of Brika in the southern countryside of Quneitra with military vehicles. Israeli soldiers also carried out house-to-house search operations in the nearby village of Rasm al-Akraf, the broadcaster said.
The report said Israeli military also fired two artillery shells toward an area between the town of Beit Jinn and the al-Tilal al-Hamr region in the western Damascus countryside. No information was released on casualties or damage following the military activity and shelling, and Syrian authorities had not issued an official statement on the incidents.
Syria's southern provinces of Quneitra and Daraa have frequently been the site of Israeli raids, searches, detentions and the establishment of military checkpoints. Most recently, Israeli warplanes carried out eight airstrikes on the runway of the Abu Zuhur military airport in Idlib on Aug. 18, damaging infrastructure there.
Israel has occupied most of the Golan Heights since 1967. Following the fall of the Baath government at the end of 2024, Israel said the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement had been nullified and moved to occupy the buffer zone on the Syrian side as well as the Syrian portion of Mount Hermon.
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said on July 26 that his government was working to sign a security agreement with Israel involving the participation of international actors. "If the agreement is reached, it will pave the way for a comprehensive peace without conceding Syria's rights over the occupied Golan," he said.
