An Israeli settler shot and killed a Palestinian man during a raid on the town of Duma, south of Nablus, in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, witnesses and Palestinian officials said.
Witnesses told AFP that a group of settlers stormed the town, sparking clashes with residents. The settlers fired live ammunition at Palestinians, they said.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said 35-year-old Khalil Riza Dawabsha was hit by settler gunfire and taken to hospital after initial treatment at the scene. The Palestinian Health Ministry later confirmed he had died.
Palestinians accuse Israeli forces and settlers of intensifying attacks in the occupied West Bank — including demolishing homes, forcing residents off their land, and expanding illegal settlements — in a bid to pave the way for annexation.
Since Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023, violence has also surged in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. More than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed, around 7,000 wounded, and over 18,500 detained in raids and settler attacks during that period, according to Palestinian figures.
