Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said Israel has shown it is not interested in peace after targeting Doha, the capital of Qatar, and accused both Israel and the United States of carrying out illegal strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Speaking with journalists from the Association of Correspondents Accredited to the United Nations (ACANU), Khatibzadeh recalled the June 13 attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. “All the targeted facilities were under constant monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency,” he said. “Despite the risks, the U.S. and Israelis attacked our peaceful nuclear facilities, violating international law and endangering the Non-Proliferation Treaty.”
He said the attack undermined ongoing nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington. “They struck our facilities in the middle of negotiations, showing they are not committed to responsible diplomacy.”
Khatibzadeh criticized European countries for remaining passive and preparing new sanctions against Iran. “They are fueling further escalation,” he said.
He also condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and the West Bank, saying, “Sixty-five thousand Palestinians have been killed. What is happening in Gaza is genocide. Israel is trying to expel Palestinians from their land, expand settlements and make the establishment of a Palestinian state impossible.”
Referring to Israel’s Sept. 9 strike on Doha, Khatibzadeh said: “Before coming here, I was in Doha, and the level of anger and concern is extremely high. Israel has shown that for them, no red lines exist. They attack sovereignty, borders and the very foundations of international law.”
He argued Israel is pursuing “illusory ambitions” of a “Greater Israel” through annexation and aggression. “By striking Doha, Israel proved to everyone it has no interest in peace,” he said.
