Images of the Marina Delta Lagoons project design in Egypt, which reportedly resembles the Jewish Menorah, have sparked widespread debate on social media.

The “Marina Delta Lagoons” project is developed by Delta Capital Real Estate Development Company.

Overlooking the Mediterranean coast near the beaches of Baltim city in the Kafr El-Sheikh governorate in Egypt, it is considered a meeting point for the Delta governorates.

The resort is located approximately 130 kilometers (80.7 miles) from Alexandria and 70 kilometers from Kafr El-Sheikh.

It is also 87 kilometers from Mansoura, 7 kilometers from New Mansoura, 68 kilometers from Damietta and 95 kilometers from Tanta.

The company designed this project with a shape that looks like a menorah.

“Menorah,” the shape people linked the design to, refers to the Jewish seven-branched candelabrum, a traditional religious symbol of Judaism that also appears in Israel’s emblem.

A storm in a teacup

Despite the online buzz, the company has not issued an official comment regarding the controversy.

However, Roi Kais, editor for Arab affairs at the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, addressed the issue. He emphasized that the reality is far simpler: the resort is a standard tourism project, and its architectural design follows a stepped layout intended to complement the coastline.

Meanwhile, some Israelis highlighted the project, noting its resemblance to the Menorah. Among them, Israeli journalist Ede Cohen, known for previous controversial remarks, shared the project, declaring, “No place for coincidence.

It is worth noting that the constructed company completed numerous other construction projects and received the award for Best Real Estate Developer in the Delta.

The company has carried out several major projects in the Delta, including Marina Delta and Blue Beach.

Türkiye Today also investigated the project’s timeline and found that the company announced the initiative three years ago, emphasizing that the resort was designed purely as a coastal tourism development.

Many experts and commentators have dismissed the controversy as “a storm in a teacup,” suggesting that the public reaction is overblown and that the design serves purely aesthetic and functional purposes.
