Kuwait said an electricity generation and water desalination plant was attacked early Friday, causing material damage to parts of the facility.
The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said in a statement that the incident occurred at dawn on April 3, when an Iranian attack targeted the site and damaged some of its components.
Ministry spokesperson Fatima Abbas Jawhar Hayat said technical and emergency teams responded immediately under contingency plans to manage the impact and maintain operations, while coordinating with security and other authorities to secure the area.
The incident came shortly after a drone strike triggered a fire in parts of Kuwait’s Mina Al-Ahmadi oil refinery, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation said.
Emergency and firefighting teams activated response plans and were working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading, the corporation told the Kuwait News Agency.
No injuries were reported, and precautionary measures were taken to protect workers and facilities, it said.
The corporation added that it is coordinating with the Environment Public Authority to monitor air quality in surrounding areas, with no negative environmental impact recorded so far.
The region has been on alert since the United States and Israel launched an air offensive on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people so far, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel along with Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
