Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said Friday that one of its power generation and water desalination stations was damaged in what it called an Iranian attack, sparking a fire and prompting the activation of emergency response plans.

In a statement published on its official channels, the ministry condemned the incident as "unjust Iranian aggression against the State of Kuwait," which caused significant damage to the facility's infrastructure, knocked out a large number of electricity generation units, and forced the immediate activation of grid-stabilization plans to limit the impact on public utilities.

The ministry stated that firefighting teams from the General Fire Force immediately responded, successfully bringing the fire under control and extinguishing it. Simultaneously, technical and emergency teams began coordinating with relevant authorities to secure the facility, assess infrastructure damage, and safely restore the affected units to service as quickly as possible.

The ministry said the technical crews continue to work around the clock to maintain the stability of the national electrical grid and ensure uninterrupted service. Officials confirmed they are continuously monitoring grid indicators and taking all necessary precautionary measures to limit any broader systemic impact.

Ministry calls for reducing electricity consumption

The ministry appealed to citizens and residents to cooperate during this "exceptional period" by rationalizing electricity consumption, saying this would have a direct effect on supporting the stability of the national electrical grid. This cooperation, it said, will enable technical teams to manage the system efficiently and maintain service continuity across the country.

The ministry said public awareness and cooperation are an integral part of national efforts to address the consequences of the attack, and that every contribution to reducing consumption strengthens the grid's capacity to weather this period and supports repair work and the rehabilitation of damaged facilities as quickly as possible.

Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said its Aerospace Force targeted a U.S. military base in Kuwait as part of the 12th wave of what it described as a retaliatory operation, according to the semi-official Mehr News Agency.

The IRGC said the targets included a missile defense detection and tracking radar, several weapons depots, two High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers and missiles stored for the system.

It also claimed the strike triggered a large fire at the base.

Regional tensions have escalated since February, when the U.S. and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran. Tehran responded with missile and drone strikes targeting Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.

Iran and the U.S. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) brokered by Pakistan last month aimed at ending the conflict and reaching a lasting peace agreement. However, tensions have intensified in recent days over the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides exchanging attacks.
