Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said Monday Israel had failed to comply with the framework agreement and that southern Lebanon continued to face daily violations.

According to a written statement from the Lebanese Presidency, Aoun received Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy at Baabda Palace in the capital, Beirut.

During the meeting, which addressed the situation in southern Lebanon, Aoun said:

“Israel has not complied with the framework agreement, and the south of the country is subjected to daily violations. However, this will not achieve anything. On the contrary, it will only strengthen the Lebanese people's attachment to their land and rights.”

Lebanon committed to diplomatic solution

Emphasizing that his country remained committed to a diplomatic solution despite all the challenges it faced, Aoun said, “Because this solution is far less costly than the devastating war for which the Lebanese people, particularly those in the south, have paid the price. It is time for Lebanon to finally enjoy peace.”

He said Lebanon would welcome any efforts or initiatives by the Arab League aimed at helping the country overcome the difficult period it was experiencing.

Arab world's support

Speaking after the meeting, Arab League Secretary-General Fahmy said Lebanon was a priority for the organization and stressed the need to support the Lebanese state and all its institutions.

Fahmy expressed his desire to visit southern Lebanon, where Israeli attacks are continuing, and said political and diplomatic efforts concerning Lebanon would be intensified.

He emphasized that the Arab world supported Lebanon's negotiations with Israel.

Israel and Lebanon signed a U.S.-mediated framework agreement on June 26 aimed at ending the dispute between the two countries and establishing long-term peace.

The agreement provides for Israel's gradual withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories and the continuation of negotiations between the two sides.

However, despite the agreement, Israel continues its occupation of Lebanese territory and its attacks on the country.
