Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said Friday that negotiations with the United States are futile unless Washington accepts all of Iran's conditions.
"As long as the American side does not accept all of Iran's conditions, dialogue and negotiation are of no use," Azizi wrote on the social media platform X.
In a separate post, he added: "No negotiations. Until Iran's terms are met, talks are futile."
The statement comes amid reports that the U.S. and EU are pushing for negotiations without preconditions, while speculation grows over a potential diplomatic reopening between Washington and Tehran.
Iranian officials have set several conditions for resuming negotiations with Washington, including lifting the naval blockade and economic pressure on Iran, releasing frozen Iranian assets abroad, and ending Israeli attacks on Lebanon and Gaza.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking to India's "India Today" television channel, said the Strait of Hormuz would reopen only if the United States ends its blockade and attacks on Iran.
On the war with the U.S. and the economic pressure being applied to Iran, Pezeshkian said: "They could not achieve their goals through war, so they turned to economic pressure, but we will not stop."
Referring to the U.S. naval blockade of Iran, Pezeshkian said: "Of course, the sea route is not one on which our lives depend, and they will not achieve their goals this way either."
He said the Strait of Hormuz would open once the U.S. ends the blockade and its attacks.
On talks between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Pezeshkian said: "This week, on Monday, foreign ministers of Arab countries are gathering in Muscat to sign an agreement between Oman and Iran establishing a joint route through the Strait of Hormuz, and to announce this agreement to the International Maritime Organization. Countries from whose territory attacks against us (by the U.S.) have been launched are present at this meeting."
Speaking in New Delhi ahead of the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit, Pezeshkian said pressure on Iran had reached a "critical and dangerous stage" following military aggression by the U.S. and Israel.
"Iran has been subjected to heavy sanctions in recent years; this pressure has reached a critical and dangerous stage in recent months following the military aggression by the United States and Israel," Pezeshkian said, describing the world as going through a period of "unprecedented complexity" that increased use of economic pressure tools only exacerbates.
"When a country is subjected to political and military pressure on its trade, energy, infrastructure and financial system, the repercussions extend beyond its borders," Pezeshkian said, adding that the aggression against Iran "once again demonstrated a critical truth: economic security cannot be separated from national and regional security."
Pezeshkian also said BRICS must create an environment "where no country can disrupt the legitimate trade of others," emphasizing the importance of expanding the use of national currencies in trade among member states.
He said BRICS's strength would become more evident "as it moves from potential cooperation to operational cooperation," and that Iran was ready to serve as a "strategic partner" within BRICS on energy and transportation supply chains, working with fellow members to build a "more open and fair" global economy.
