A senior Omani official said Oman and Türkiye maintain relations built on “trust and mutual cooperation,” with multiple agreements in force, including in the defense sector.

Ahmed al-Maskeri, head of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Regional Neighborhood Department at Oman’s Foreign Ministry, spoke during a National Day event titled “Cultural Heritage Extending From Oman to the World,” held at the National Museum in Muscat.

Oman emphasizes neutral diplomacy, mediation

Maskeri said Oman prioritizes dialogue over conflict, enabling the country to act as a “reliable bridge” between East and West.

He stressed that Omani diplomacy is based on neutrality “to serve Oman, GCC countries, and international peace.”

“Our credibility in mediation comes from consistency,” he said. “What we say behind closed doors is the same message we give in the media.”

On regional issues, Maskeri reaffirmed Oman’s “firm and unwavering” stance on the Palestinian cause, condemning Israeli attacks in the occupied West Bank and Gaza.

Defense, cooperation agreements with Türkiye

Speaking to Anadolu, Maskeri said Oman and Türkiye cooperate in “many areas, including the defense industry,” noting that several agreements between the two countries are active.

He recalled attending a roundtable meeting during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Muscat last month, where the two sides discussed strengthening mediation efforts on regional matters.

President Erdogan had met Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and praised Oman’s mediation role.

Oman has recently facilitated indirect talks between the US and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear program and mediated a cease-fire agreement between the US and Yemen’s Houthis in 2024.

Oman investment authority expands global reach

In a separate National Day event, the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) outlined its expanding global investment strategy.

Saif bin Hamad al-Mahruki, director of private market investments at the OIA, said the institution currently invests in over 50 countries through companies, real estate, equities, and bonds.

The OIA maintains strategic partnerships with similar institutions in 10 countries and plans to increase this number to 15 soon.

Mahruki said OIA’s strategy aims to enhance economic diversification, attract domestic and foreign investment, and strengthen global integration in line with Oman’s Vision 2040.
