Baku Slavyan University Rector Professor Anar Nagiyev emphasized that the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) plays a strategic role in regional stability and global cooperation.

Speaking at a conference titled “Changing Geopolitical Realities and Azerbaijan’s Regional Leadership” at Tekirdag Namik Kemal University, Nagiyev said a new era has begun, noting that the Turkic world is experiencing a rise across a broad geography.

Nagiyev underscored Azerbaijan’s regional position, citing the importance of transporting Azerbaijani oil and natural gas to Europe via Türkiye.

“Azerbaijan is bringing a new breath to the Caucasus, Anatolia and Central Asia. We all clearly see that our history has entered a new period,” he said.

‘OTS must evolve into a structure that makes major decisions’

Nagiyev stated that the Organization of Turkic States carries significant weight in the region and that its functions should be strengthened.

“OTS holds strategic importance for regional stability and global cooperation. We strongly believe in its future together with Türkiye and other Turkic states,” he said, noting that Hungary and Turkmenistan participated as guests in the recent meeting held in Azerbaijan.

“Turkic States should not remain merely a gathering platform. It must evolve into a structure that makes major economic and political decisions. In 2026, the organization’s military cooperation experience should also be put into practice,” he added.

Zangezur Corridor seen as key for connectivity

Nagiyev also highlighted that the Zangezur Corridor would significantly enhance the region’s transportation and trade networks.

Following the conference, students at Namik Kemal University performed traditional Azerbaijani folk dances.
