British authorities detained more than 50 demonstrators backing the outlawed Palestine Action group at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, northwestern England. Merseyside Police verified the arrests in a Sunday statement.
Officers said the detainees at the rally, organized by Defend Our Juries, had shown items supporting Palestine Action. The Labour government labeled the group a “terrorist” organization under the Terrorism Act in July 2025.
The statement added that officers upheld the right to lawful protest while working to maintain order and public safety.
Campaigners also approached Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband at a Liverpool restaurant and demanded that he end the prohibition on the group and declare Israel's actions in Gaza a genocide. They left after he reportedly declined to respond.
Since the July 2025 ban, a civil disobedience campaign has grown, with more than 3,600 people arrested for backing the group. Many held signs reading “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.”
The U.K. Supreme Court is now set to hear the case after London’s Court of Appeal upheld the government ban in June.
