Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held separate calls Saturday with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as diplomatic efforts intensified over a possible U.S.-Iran agreement.
The calls focused on regional developments, efforts to reduce tensions and diplomatic tracks aimed at strengthening security and stability, according to statements from Qatar and the UAE.
They came as regional contacts increased following Pakistan-led mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran and after U.S. President Donald Trump said an agreement with Iran had been “largely negotiated.”
Qatar’s Amiri Diwan said Sheikh Tamim and the Saudi crown prince reviewed relations between their countries and ways to strengthen cooperation.
The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and international developments.
They discussed efforts to support political solutions aimed at strengthening regional security and stability, while stressing the importance of reaching comprehensive and lasting solutions that address the root causes of crises.
In a separate call, Sheikh Tamim and the UAE president discussed bilateral relations and regional developments, according to the Emirates News Agency.
The two leaders exchanged views on diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions and advancing political solutions.
They also stressed the importance of supporting diplomatic tracks to reinforce regional security and stability.
The calls came hours after Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir concluded a visit to Tehran.
Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf during the visit as part of Islamabad’s mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran.
The regional contacts also came amid intensified diplomacy over a possible U.S.-Iran agreement and reports that Tehran had presented a new formula for a possible deal with Washington.
Earlier Saturday, Trump said an agreement with Iran had been “largely negotiated,” but that final aspects and details were still being discussed.
He said the details would be announced “shortly” and added that the Strait of Hormuz “will be opened” as part of the understandings under discussion.
