Qatar's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majed al-Ansari refuted claims that there is an imminent threat of an Iranian missile attack on the country.
''The advisories issued by a number of embassies to their nationals to exercise caution or avoid certain locations in the State of Qatar fall within the general policies adopted by various countries regarding travel guidance & security updates for their citizens around the world. These advisories do not necessarily reflect the existence of specific or credible threats. We would like to reassure the public that the security situation in the State remains stable," Ansari stated.
The U.S. State Department issued an alert notice on Qatar, noting that "We recommend American citizens shelter in place until further notice." The message noted that the recommendation is “out of an abundance of caution” and offers no further information.
Ansar continued, ''The relevant authorities are closely monitoring the situation and remain fully prepared to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of citizens, residents and visitors. The public will be kept informed of any developments that may warrant notification or action, and we stress the importance of obtaining information from official sources.
The State of Qatar continues to exert intensive diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and to preserve regional security and stability through ongoing engagement with relevant stakeholders and regional and international partners.''
