Ukraine carried out a series of drone attacks between Tuesday and Thursday targeting infrastructure supporting gas flows through the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines, according to Russia’s Foreign Ministry.

In a written statement on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Ukrainian forces attempted to strike critical facilities that enable gas exports via pipelines, specifically three compressor stations. 22 drones targeted the Russkaya station while three and one went after Kazachya and Beregovaya, but all were intercepted with no damage reported, it added.

Russia warns attacks may disrupt global energy markets

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the attempted strikes could have consequences beyond the immediate area, warning that such actions may undermine regional energy security and disrupt global markets.

She described the incidents as a pattern of attacks on energy-related assets, such as earlier attacks including tankers operating in international waters in the Mediterranean and Black Sea, as well as infrastructure belonging to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. Zakharov said these actions aim to weaken Russia’s position as an energy supplier and disrupt established export routes.

The spokesperson asserted that some Western countries have acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining market balance without Russian energy supplies, while accusing Kyiv of acting against those interests.

Moscow stresses security of key gas routes

Zakharova also said the timing of the reported attacks coincided with diplomatic engagements involving Ukrainian leadership in London, suggesting an attempt to keep the conflict in focus amid shifting geopolitical developments, particularly in the Middle East.

She emphasized that Russia continues to work with international partners to ensure the uninterrupted operation of energy and logistics networks that transport hydrocarbons.

TurkStream, launched in 2020, runs about 930 kilometers under the Black Sea with a capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) per year, supplying Türkiye and parts of Europe. Blue Stream, operational since 2003, stretches roughly 1,213 km with a capacity of 16 bcm annually and delivers gas directly to Türkiye.
