A container vessel came under attack Monday, approximately 14 nautical miles south of the coast of Yemen, after a small skiff approached the ship, opened fire on it, and attempted to board, according to a U.K. Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) warning issued at 07:35 a.m. GMT.
The UKMTO issued the incident as Warning 069-26, sourced to a company security officer. Authorities are investigating the issue.
The organization advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
No details were disclosed regarding the vessel's flag state, operator, cargo, or the outcome of the boarding attempt. It was not immediately clear whether the attack resulted in casualties or damage.
