Airport officials said the unmanned aerial vehicle fell at a location distant from facilities, runways and surrounding buildings.

Authorities confirmed that operations were not affected and that no structural damage occurred at the airport complex.

The statement indicated that the drone incident took place near the airport perimeter but did not threaten aviation infrastructure or personnel.

Initial assessments suggested the incident may be linked to Iran's retaliatory actions across the Gulf region, although officials did not provide further details on the drone's origin or operational purpose..

Iraq warns against escalation

Tensions across the Gulf region remain high as the conflict continues to escalate following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran, which triggered retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Tehran targeting Israeli territory as well as Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.

Iranian strikes and interceptions have been reported across several Gulf states, including explosions in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Doha. On Thursday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also targeted the headquarters of Kurdish opposition groups in northern Iraq with three missiles.

On the same day, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said in a phone call with Nechirvan Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq, that Iraq would not allow its territory to be used to launch attacks against neighboring countries.

According to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Media Office, the two leaders discussed ongoing military operations in the region and their potential implications for Iraq’s security environment. During the conversation, they also rejected attacks targeting Iraqi cities, including those in the northern region.
