Thousands of students protested in Belgium's capital, Brussels, against rising university enrollment fees and tightened academic performance requirements in higher education.
Nearly 5,000 university students gathered outside Brussels Central Station at the call of FEF, which represents students at French-language universities and colleges in Belgium.
Protesting higher education policies, students marched along major roads to the building housing the Wallonia-Brussels Federation government.
Students opposed a rise in the full annual enrollment fee at universities and colleges from €835 to €1,194, along with tightened academic performance requirements that mandate students complete their studies within a set timeframe.
Students also voiced anger over rising costs for housing, transportation, food and course materials.
Education unions and some teachers' groups also backed the students' protest.
