Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in good health and continues to lead the country, an Iranian official said, explaining his absence from public view due to security concerns.
Ali Bahraini, Iran’s representative to the United Nations office in Geneva, said the situation is linked to ongoing security considerations.
“The reason for his absence from public view is the observance of security considerations due to the current special circumstances,” Bahraini said, according to Iran’s state-affiliated Student News Network (SNN).
He added that Khamenei “is in full health and is continuing to lead the country.”
Khamenei has not appeared publicly since his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, was killed last month in joint U.S.-Israeli strikes.
Since his appointment, only statements attributed to the new supreme leader have been read publicly.
Earlier this month, a source familiar with the situation told CNN that Mojtaba Khamenei sustained injuries during the initial phase of the U.S. and Israeli bombardment campaign.
The source said he suffered a fractured foot, along with minor injuries, including a bruise around his left eye and lacerations to his face.
