The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdelkader Husariyye, announced that new banknotes will gradually be put into circulation as part of the country’s ongoing monetary and financial reform process. The notes will be printed by “two or three trusted international sources” with advanced security features to prevent counterfeiting.
Speaking to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Husariyye emphasized that the new banknotes would be produced according to international technical standards and equipped with high-level security safeguards. He said the reform is not intended to increase money supply, but rather to improve the efficiency of cash circulation and facilitate payment systems.
The Central Bank of Syria outlined a three-phase plan for the transition. In the first stage, new banknotes will be issued alongside existing ones, which will remain in circulation. In the second stage, older notes will gradually be replaced by the new series. The third stage will involve exchanges conducted exclusively through the Central Bank of Syria.
Husariyye stated that the initiative aims to strengthen trust in the national currency and protect consumer rights. He added that a nationwide awareness campaign will be launched to inform the public about the new banknotes and their features.
