Mohamed Alabbar, the founder and chairman of Dubai-based Emaar Properties, stated that his company has not been contacted concerning reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip. He added that Emaar is not inclined to participate in any of those initiatives.
Alabbar added during an video interview at the Reuters NEXT Gulf Summit in Abu Dhab that every party involved in the chaos should bear the responsibility of fixing it.
“It’s funny — my father and mother always used to tell me, ‘Mohamed, clean up your mess, make your bed, wash your plate.’ So that’s my philosophy,”Alabbar continued .
He added, “Everyone should clean up their own mess. If I eat from my plate, it’s my duty to clean it.”
The remarks come after U.S. President Donald Trump spoke of creating a “new Riviera” in Gaza, raising questions over who will rebuild the Strip.
On another note, Alabbar remains one of the most prominent figures in the fields of investment and real estate development across the Arab region and globally.
Despite his vast portfolio of mega projects in multiple countries, his connection to Egypt stands out through his repeated statements.
He has often affirmed that his presence and investments in the “Land of the Nile” stem not merely from economic motives, but from a genuine affection for the Egyptian people and a deep belief in their potential.
Emaar, the largest publicly listed real estate company in the UAE, already holds significant investments in Egypt, including the Marassi project in Sidi Abdel Rahman on the Mediterranean coast and the Uptown Cairo development in the heart of the capital.
Regarding Emaar’s broader investments in Egypt, the company’s founder stated that current investments total $18 billion and are expected to rise to $25 billion over the next three years, according to a recent press interview.
