U.S. President Donald Trump blocked an Israeli request to carry out another strike in Syria as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sought to strengthen Türkiye's position in the country with the approval of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Trump, Israeli media reported.
According to Israel's Channel 13, Türkiye has made significant efforts in recent weeks to consolidate its influence in Syria, while Israel sought U.S. approval for another attack in the country.
Unlike previous occasions, Trump prevented the strike from going ahead, the report said.
Channel 13 described the development as another sign of deteriorating relations between Israel and the U.S. while pointing to increasingly close ties between Trump and Erdogan.
The report also highlighted the trilateral defense agreement signed this week in Mecca by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, which is intended to strengthen regional deterrence and security.
The agreement was signed amid tensions with Iran and includes a provision stating that an armed attack on one of the three countries would be considered an attack on all of them.
Channel 13 said the provision could potentially create three additional fronts for Israel.
A day after the agreement was signed, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Egypt could join the defense framework once "several technical issues" were resolved.
In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Fidan said the new alliance would establish a ministerial committee similar to structures used by NATO, as well as a general secretariat headquartered in Riyadh.
The developments came as an Iranian lawmaker criticized the new defense alliance.
Mahmoud Nabavian, a member of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, wrote on the U.S.-based social media platform X that the agreement would not guarantee Saudi Arabia's security.
"The rulers of Saudi Arabia must know that just as America's bases could not bring them security, clinging to America's servants will not bring them security either," Nabavian said.
At the same time, tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis have been increasing.
Yemen's military announced that it had launched a broad operation against the group, focused mainly on the area around the capital, Sanaa.
