Several Turkish airlines have canceled flights to Iran for Friday and Saturday amid ongoing regional developments, with disruptions affecting services to multiple Iranian cities.
Türkiye’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines said it canceled a total of 17 flights scheduled for Jan. 9 and Jan. 10 to Tehran, Tabriz and Mashhad.
In a statement, the airline said the cancellations were due to developments in Iran and advised passengers to check the latest flight status through its official website.
Iran has seen waves of protests since late December, initially sparked by the sharp depreciation of the rial and worsening economic conditions, before spreading to several cities.
Iranian authorities have not released official casualty figures, while the Human Rights Activists News Agency reported at least 42 deaths, including eight security personnel, during the protests.
Pegasus Airlines also canceled all flights it was scheduled to operate to various Iranian cities on Friday, citing regional developments.
The airline did not issue any statement regarding the status of flights planned for Saturday.
Budget carrier AJet said it canceled a total of six flights scheduled to operate to Tehran on Friday and Saturday.
The airline said passengers are being informed about the current status of their flights and relevant updates related to the cancellations.
No further details were provided by the airlines regarding the duration of the disruptions.
