The death toll from the Filo Jet passenger vessel accident off Girne in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) rose to 13 on Saturday after rescuers recovered another body, Prime Minister Unal Ustel said.
Ustel said search-and-rescue operations were continuing without interruption, while 15 people remained missing.
“As a result of the uninterrupted search-and-rescue efforts carried out following the maritime accident, the body of one more of our people has been recovered,” Ustel said at a news conference.
“With the recovery of the latest body, the number of our people who lost their lives in the accident has risen to 13, while the number of our missing people is now 15,” he added.
The Filo Jet was carrying 267 people when it sank off Girne after departing Girne Port on Sunday, Aug. 30.
The passenger vessel was traveling from Girne to Tasucu in Mersin, Türkiye, when the accident occurred.
Search efforts remain underway for the 15 people still missing.
Ustel said TRNC police had begun work to establish the identity of the latest body recovered from the vessel.
Search-and-rescue teams continue operations in the area as authorities work to locate those still unaccounted for.
