Türkiye, Jordan discuss regional security after Iranian missile launch

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone call with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi to discuss the regional security situation after the Israeli military reported detecting ballistic missiles launched from Iran toward the southern Jordanian city of Aqaba.

Turkish Foreign Ministry sources said Fidan and Safadi addressed security developments across the region during the call.

No further details about their conversation were immediately provided.

Israeli military reports missiles launched toward Aqaba

The Israeli military said it had detected ballistic missiles launched from Iran toward Aqaba in southern Jordan.

“There may be spillover into Israeli territory as a result of the fire,” the military warned.

It added that sirens would sound if the missile fire spilled over into Israeli territory.

The military said there were no changes to the Israeli Home Front Command’s guidelines for civilians at the time of the announcement.

Fidan holds talks with Qatari counterpart in Doha

Fidan also met Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha on Sunday.

According to a post shared by Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Fidan met Al Thani as part of a visit during which he was expected to hold a series of talks with Qatari officials.

Following his talks with Al Thani, Fidan met Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

No further details about the meeting were immediately available.
