Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, discussed the latest regional developments and recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia in a phone call Friday, Turkish diplomatic sources said.
The talks came after Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry announced Friday that it had shut down the East-West oil pipeline following multiple attacks in the Riyadh and Madinah regions a day earlier.
The ministry said the pipeline was closed “as a precautionary measure” after the attacks left a number of people injured. Those affected received medical treatment, though authorities did not provide further details on their number or condition.
CNN reported Friday, citing two U.S. officials familiar with the incident, that projectiles struck the pipeline system Thursday and triggered fires at pumping stations.
The East-West pipeline carries crude from Saudi Arabia’s eastern oil-producing region to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, allowing the kingdom to bypass the Strait of Hormuz for oil exports.
