The Turkish Trade Ministry said truck processing at the Ipsala and Kipi border gates has been suspended since the evening of Dec. 2 due to a farmers’ strike in Greece that has blocked roads on the Greek side.
In a statement shared on the ministry’s X account, officials said Greek farmers’ actions have closed the route to truck traffic at Ipsala and Kipi, preventing the processing of commercial vehicles.
The ministry also reported receiving information that Greece’s Ormenio border gate, located on the Bulgarian frontier, was similarly blocked by farmers.
Authorities further noted that Greece is expected to carry out similar protest actions at border crossings with Bulgaria and North Macedonia, where truck passage will also not be permitted.
The strike is expected to continue from Dec. 15 to 21, according to information obtained by the ministry.
The ministry said it has made the necessary démarches for certain refrigerated and hazardous cargo to be exempted from the blockade.
This includes refrigerated trucks carrying fish, eggs, fruits, vegetables, flowers and medical supplies, and tankers transporting chemical materials with ADR certification.
Given the disruptions, the ministry stressed the importance of redirecting trucks to other border crossings during the Greek farmers’ strike to prevent logistical bottlenecks.
