President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Türkiye is actively involved in efforts to ensure the implementation of the Gaza peace plan, stressing the need for a sustained ceasefire, uninterrupted humanitarian aid and the protection of civilians.
Speaking to journalists aboard his plane on Feb. 4 following visits to Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Erdogan said Türkiye is working closely with regional partners, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt, to stop Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip and support the reconstruction of the enclave.
Erdogan said Israel has continued targeting civilians and imposing severe restrictions on humanitarian aid deliveries. He said more than 500 Palestinians have been killed by Israel since Oct. 11 and that serious obstacles remain for aid trucks entering Gaza.
Despite what he described as repeated provocations and ceasefire violations, Erdogan said the first phase of the Gaza peace plan has been completed, making clear which sides favor peace and which favor war.
He said Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt aim to remain closely involved in all stages of the process to protect the rights of Palestinians.
Erdogan said Egypt plays a critical role in coordinating humanitarian assistance from Türkiye into Gaza, adding that Cairo’s support has been essential in delivering aid. He said Türkiye remains in close dialogue with regional actors to ensure the reopening of pathways for Gaza’s reconstruction.
Erdogan said stability and peace in northern Syria are of direct concern to Türkiye, reiterating Ankara’s support for a unified Syrian state based on the principle of one country, one army and one authority.
He said compliance with agreements signed by the structure referred to as the “SDG” would strengthen the climate for peace in Syria and help establish lasting stability. Erdogan warned against attempts to fuel conflict, escalate tensions or delay solutions.
Erdogan said Türkiye supports a strong, peaceful and unified Syria that embraces all communities, including Kurds, Arabs, Turkmens and Nusayris, stressing that Türkiye’s problem is with terrorism, not with the Syrian people.
He added that progress in resolving issues in northern Syria would ease the burden of Türkiye’s “terror-free Türkiye” initiative, noting that parliamentary work on the issue is continuing and that Ankara expects a report reflecting consensus and a constructive approach to the process.
