President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that Türkiye would continue supporting Kosovo in securing what he called its “rightful place” in the international community during talks with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti in New York.
The closed-door meeting was held at the Turkish House, or Turkevi Center, on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.
According to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments.
Erdogan said Türkiye would continue working to increase bilateral trade to a level reflecting the economic potential of both countries.
He also said Ankara wanted to further deepen cooperation with Kosovo in security and the defense industry.
Erdogan told Kurti that Türkiye would continue backing Kosovo’s international standing and supported dialogue among Balkan countries.
During the meeting, Erdogan invited Kurti to attend the COP31 Leaders’ Summit, which Türkiye is scheduled to host in Antalya in November.
Türkiye and Kosovo maintain close relations based on shared historical ties.
Ankara recognized Kosovo on Feb. 18, 2008, one day after it declared independence.
