Türkiye will support the Syrian government if it decides to take an initiative for unity and integrity, the Ministry of National Defense (MoND) stated on Wednesday at its weekly press briefing.
"We are continuing close cooperation with the Syrian government in line with the 'One State, One Army' principle and closely monitoring the integration process. If the Syrian government decides to take an initiative for unity and integrity, Türkiye will support it," the ministry said.
The ministry criticized the SDF for continuing to demand decentralization and federalism while refusing to integrate with the central authority.
"The SDF continues to voice demands for decentralization and federalism and is not taking steps to integrate with the central authority. As we have emphasized before, this attitude of the SDF is damaging Syria's territorial integrity and stability," the ministry said.
The Syrian government said Friday, Decç 26, that talks with the SDF have produced no tangible outcomes, despite repeated statements by the group that dialogue with Damascus is ongoing.
On March 10, the Syrian presidency announced the signing of an agreement for the SDF’s integration into state institutions, reaffirming the country's territorial unity and rejecting any attempts at division.
The SDF is dominated by the terrorist group YPG, the Syrian branch of the terrorist PKK.
Syrian authorities say that in the months since March 10, the SDF has not shown any efforts to meet the terms of the agreement.
Officials in neighboring Türkiye have also stressed that the SDF must abide by the deal, warning that any security issues in Syria affect Türkiye as well.
Responding to questions about F-35 procurement, the ministry said efforts to diversify the inventory with modern aircraft equipped with advanced technology continue until the national Kaan fighter jet enters service.
"We assess that if CAATSA sanctions are lifted, the momentum of defense industry cooperation with the US will increase. Work continues on lifting the said sanctions and F-35 procurement," the ministry said.
Speaking at the weekly press briefing, Ministry Spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Akturk stated that Israel has been creating instability at regional and global levels and continuing its lawlessness for more than two years.
"The international community is failing to stop Israel's ruthless massacres and inhumane practices against the Palestinian people, its threats to the sovereignty of regional countries, and the chaos it has created in the region," Akturk said.
"We hope that next year will be a year when peace comes to the region and Palestine, when the Palestinian people gain the right to life, and when regional confidence and stability are ensured," he added.
