Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli stated on Friday that Israel is manipulating the terrorist organization YPG-led SDF to pose a security threat to Türkiye and disrupt the country's "terror-free Türkiye" initiative, according to an interview published in Turkgun newspaper.

Bahceli added that Israel is not only committing crimes against humanity in Gaza but has effectively declared war on six regional states while attempting to create instability in the region.

Regional instability concerns

"Israel is provoking and manipulating the terrorist organization SDF to prevent them from joining the 'terror-free Türkiye' process that has begun in Türkiye," Bahceli stated in the interview.

The MHP leader emphasized that these developments pose serious conflict risks near Türkiye's borders, adding, "Türkiye is a state that desires the territorial integrity of its neighbors more than anyone else and has paid the heaviest prices for this."

Syria's political transition

Addressing recent developments in Syria, Bahceli noted that a 53-year totalitarian regime had been overthrown and the vast majority of the Syrian people celebrated this development.

"The new Syrian regime declared its desire to be a democratic republic, not an ideological state," he said, referencing Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa's statements about learning from past mistakes, believing in democracy, and opposing religious, linguistic and sectarian discrimination.

However, Bahceli accused various actors, primarily Israel, of attempting to destabilize Syria's Mediterranean coastal region, the southern Daraa-Sweida line, and northeastern territories.

"They are making every effort to create a second Israel in northeastern Syria. They are trying to enslave the people living in this region through oppression and tyranny," he stated.

The MHP leader also questioned the actions of the United States, Western nations and Israel, who he said had targeted the Assad regime for years but are now creating new instability.

"Occupying the Golan is not enough for them; they are occupying beyond it. They are conducting air operations in the territories of new Syria," Bahceli said, adding, "They are provoking and manipulating the terrorist organization SDF to prevent them from joining the 'terror-free Türkiye' process starting in Türkiye."
