The United Arab Emirates (UAE) partially closed its airspace after Iran fired missiles and drones toward the country for the first time since a ceasefire began in early April.
The new airspace measures were announced Tuesday and will remain in place until May 11, according to Notice to Airmen, or NOTAM, advisories. Under the measures, airspace over the UAE is partially closed and aircraft are allowed to use only certain routes.
The UAE said its air defenses had “engaged” 19 missiles and drones fired by Iran on Monday, marking the first such attack in several weeks.
The UAE condemned Iran’s renewed strikes, which it said targeted civilian sites and facilities in the country. It also said it reserves the right to respond.
The airspace restrictions were introduced after missile and drone attacks, as the UAE adjusted flight routes under the NOTAM advisories.
The UAE has sustained more incoming fire from Iran than any other country in the past two months.
