The United Arab Emirates said Friday that its air defense systems intercepted two ballistic missiles and three drones launched from Iran, with the latest incursions causing three moderate injuries.
In a statement, the UAE Defense Ministry said the interceptions occurred during what it described as “blatant Iranian attacks on the United Arab Emirates.”
The ministry said UAE air defenses have intercepted a total of 551 ballistic missiles, 29 cruise missiles and 2,263 drones since the start of the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran on Feb. 28.
According to the statement, the total number of injuries has now reached 230, involving multiple nationalities.
“This brings the total number of injuries to 230, involving multiple nationalities, including Emirati, Egyptian, Sudanese, Ethiopian, Filipino, Pakistani, Iranian, Indian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Azerbaijani, Yemeni, Ugandan, Eritrean, Lebanese, Afghan, Bahraini, Comorian, Turkish, Iraqi, Nepali, Nigerian, Omani, Jordanian, Palestinian, Ghanaian, Indonesian, Swedish, Tunisian, Moroccan and Russian,” the statement said.
Regional tensions have escalated since the United States and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, prompting retaliatory attacks by Tehran and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
