An Iranian Jamaran-class corvette was struck by U.S. forces at the start of Operation Epic Fury, according to a statement.

The ship is currently sinking at a pier in Chah Bahar in the Gulf of Oman.

“As the President said, members of Iran’s armed forces, IRGC and police ‘must lay down your weapons.’ Abandon ship,” the statement said.

U.S. casualties reported

The development comes as the Pentagon announced Sunday that three American service members were killed and five seriously wounded during the U.S. military operation against Iran.

The Pentagon provided no additional details about the circumstances of the deaths or injuries.

The casualties were the first confirmed U.S. losses since Washington launched sweeping bombardments against Iran and killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei a day earlier.

International response

International condemnation of the strikes began to mount following the announcement, with Russia leading what was described as the most forceful diplomatic response.
