The New York Times (NYT) reported that missiles were fired toward Iran from a U.S.-made launcher in Bahrain, citing video footage verified by the newspaper.
According to the report, the footage shows ballistic missiles being launched toward Iran from what analysts identified as a U.S.-made launcher positioned in Bahrain.
The newspaper said the video, shared on social media, appears to show the first confirmed attack against Iran originating from a Gulf country since U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran began.
The footage, posted online on March 7, was verified by the newspaper as having been recorded near a residential area and the airport in northern Bahrain.
The report said two missiles seen in the footage were traveling northeast over the sea toward Iran.
National security analyst Wes Bryant, a former U.S. Air Force official, and missile expert Fabian Hoffmann of the University of Oslo said the launcher visible in the video appeared to be a U.S.-made M142 HIMARS truck.
The report noted it was unclear from the footage whether the missiles were fired by U.S. forces or the Bahraini military.
It also said the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) had recently shared photos of the HIMARS launcher on social media, describing the weapons as providing “unmatched deep-strike capability in the fight against the Iranian regime.”
The Bahraini government told the newspaper that its military “did not participate in any attack operations,” but did not respond to questions about whether the video showed U.S. operations conducted from Bahrain.
A Pentagon spokesperson also declined to comment on the report.
Israel and the United States launched military attacks on Iran on Feb. 28 while negotiations between the Tehran and Washington administrations were ongoing.
Iran responded with strikes on selected targets in several regional countries, primarily Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, where U.S. bases are located, as well as Israel.
In the U.S.-Israeli attacks, several senior Iranian officials were killed, including Iran’s leader Ali Khamenei.
According to Iranian officials, the death toll from the attacks has exceeded 1,348, while the number of injured has surpassed 17,000.
